Marion County TEnnessee

My Why to Serve as Commissioner

Meet Thomas Morgan

Meet Thomas Morgan — committed to serving Marion County as your commissioner, fighting for transparent and effective local government.

Core Values & Goals

I believe in honesty, transparency, and accountability in government to serve the people better.

With over 15 years in real estate and small business, I bring experience in community rebuilding and economic education to serve Marion County effectively.

My Commitment — Why I’m Running

My Why for Running: A Voice for Marion County

I am running because I have personally experienced what happens when the government forgets who it works for. I heard countless stories of people's lives getting ruined by local police, sheriffs, and politicians.

Tens of people have warned me Im playing a dangerous game, but to me the Constitution matters.

Separation of Powers, Matters.

I have been detained and removed from public meetings while lawfully speaking during public comment. I have witnessed retaliatory behavior by law enforcement, including attempts to access private property and vehicles without warrants.

That is not acceptable.
And it is not American.

I am running because I have watched the Drug Task Force operate with profit incentives, civil asset forfeiture abuse, and little public accountability — harming trust and targeting the most vulnerable.

I am running because I have seen selective enforcement and selective prosecution, based not on justice, but on class, status, or who someone knows.

I am running because I’ve seen citizens left behind — not because they lack work ethic, but because opportunity, infrastructure, and support are denied or ignored.

I moved to Marion County to build a homestead and agri-tourism business — to invest here, not extract from it. As part of that commitment, I raised concerns about a dangerous railroad crossing and deteriorating public infrastructure and presented solutions.

I was dismissed and belittled.
My concerns were minimized.

One week later, a tourist on my property was struck by a train.

Instead of accountability, I was treated as the problem for speaking up.

Since then, I have watched county leadership bend rules for developers while everyday citizens are ignored, shamed, or publicly humiliated for asking for basic services — safe roads, stable bridges, or clean water.

I’ve seen commissioners push. to spend millions paving roads the county doesn’t even own, while the public is told there’s “no money” — sometimes claiming road funds are only $10,000.

I’ve watched citizens and journalists harassed and constitutional rights treated as inconveniences. I’ve documented these issues publicly so they cannot be quietly buried.

I've seen public records hidden because it shows the corruption.

I cant even begin to tell the horror stories of people getting railroaded by the legal system., from I've received in phone calls and messages,

That is not the Marion County we deserve.

Why I’m Stepping Forward

I am not running for a title.
I am running because silence has become complicity.

Local government should:

  • Protect constitutional rights

  • Apply the law equally.

  • Spend public money honestly.

  • Serve citizens before special interests.

I believe Marion County can do better — and I am willing to do the work to prove it.

That is who I am.
That is why I’m running.

My Goals for Marion

What I’ll Fight For as a County Commissioner

  • Budget Accountability & Honest Spending
As a County Commissioner, I vote on the county budget. I will demand clear line-item explanations, oppose misleading funding narratives, and push for public-friendly budget reporting so citizens can see where their money actually goes.

  • Oversight of County-Funded Law Enforcement & Task Forces
While commissioners do not control day-to-day policing, we do approve funding, interlocal agreements, and reporting requirements. I will push for transparency, regular reporting, and public accountability for any county-funded task force or law-enforcement program.

  • Protection of Free Speech at County Meetings
The County Commission sets its own rules of order. I will fight for policies that protect lawful public comment, prohibit retaliatory removal of speakers, and ensure meetings remain open, orderly, and constitutional.

  • Infrastructure Spending Based on Safety & Need — Not Influence
Commissioners approve capital projects and road funding. I will advocate for infrastructure decisions based on safety data, ownership, and public need — not developer pressure or political favors.

  • Equal Application of County Policies & Ordinances
While enforcement is handled by departments, commissioners create the rules. I will oppose ordinances and policies that enable selective enforcement or unequal treatment of citizens.

  • Transparent Interlocal Agreements & Contracts
County Commission approval is required for many agreements with cities, agencies, and private entities. I will insist these agreements be publicly available, clearly written, and debated before approval — not rushed through.

  • Accessible & Complete Public Records
Commissioners can set expectations and fund systems for records retention and access. I will push for timely responses, digital access where feasible, and clear compliance with Tennessee public records law.

  • Respect for Property Rights in County Policy
I will oppose county policies that encourage unlawful entry, intimidation, or misuse of regulatory authority against property owners, and support clear limits on county power over private land.

.

  • Support for Small Business Through Policy, Not Favoritism
Commissioners influence zoning, fees, and development policy. I will support policies that reduce unnecessary barriers for small businesses and local builders — without creating insider carve-outs.

  • Sunlight Before Votes
No surprise agenda items, no last-minute amendments without explanation. I will advocate for the advance publication of materials so citizens can review issues before decisions are made.

  • Encourage business growth that maintains, preserves, and promotes  the natural beauty we share in Marion County, instead of carving it away, tearing it down, and polluting i.,

Maximizing County Funds

One main thing I want for all of us is the best and brightest we can when it comes to hiring. One main thing I see we need to have as a county is a team of dedicated grant writers to maximize our chances of federal and private grants for all our towns and communities.

County Commissioners may not run departments — but we control the money, the rules, and the oversight. I intend to use those powers responsibly and visibly.
